Your obligatory Yu Darvish fanboy post of the day:
7 innings pitched. 4 hits. 1 earned run. 9 strikeouts. 97 total pitches with 62 strikes. 20 out of the 27 batters faced took first pitch strikes.
With Darvish improving to 4-0, he becomes the first Rangers pitcher ever to win 4 out of their first 5 games pitched.
And yes, ladies. He’s single.

On a whim, Shannon and I got tickets to tonight’s game before it completely sold out (protip: use the promo code DRPEPPER for $10 tickets). It’s the MLB debut of Yu Darvish aka The Big Yunit aka Whirling Darvish aka YuDaMan aka Peanut the Kidnapper. I already own 2 Darvish shirts.
New goal for this season: Get interviewed by the Japanese media after a Darvish start.

Monday, April 9th will be Yu Darvish’s first start in the MLB. Since I already have tickets for opening day and Sunday, April 8th, there’s no way I could afford going to this game as well. This puts him 4th in the rotation behind Lewis, Holland, and Harrison.
Instead, Yu is pitching tonight at 9 PM CST in his final Spring Training game. It’s being broadcasted locally on TXA21, so I’m going to wear my opening day outfit and watch it at home.
I’m not weird. You’re weird.

Yu Darvish makes his spring debut with the Texas Rangers.
In two innings, he struck out 3 and allowed 2 hits.

And he followed up his 1st inning with a 2B, 3-1 out, a FC comeback high chopper that turned into a rundown at home out, and a good old fashioned K.
So, that’s 3 strikeouts in his first 2 innings of major league baseball.
Welcome to YuMania.

Adding to my week long praise of Yu Darvish and silencing the haters who think that the Rangers overpaid for him, let’s look at how much the club will spend on him this season.
The posting fee was $51.7 M, so let’s divide that by 6 for the 6 years of the contract. That leaves us with $8.616 M invested for this season. And because of the backloaded contract that was signed, Yu is set to make $5.5 M this season. That total investment is $14.116 M for the 2012 debut season. Here is a list of pitchers that make more than $14.116 in 2012:
CC Sabathia, Barry Zito, Carlos Zambrano, Johan Santana, Roy Halladay, Jake Peavy, Josh Beckett, AJ Burnett, Francisco Rodriguez, Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander, Mariano Rivera, John Lackey, Derek Lowe, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels.
I think the Rangers are gonna do just fine with the money they’ve invested in this kid.
